Home Office Environments

For a lot of people, the most important desk they use is the one at home — and it’s usually the worst-equipped. We bring the same contract-grade ergonomics we spec for the office home: for the person setting up their own space, and for companies outfitting their teams.

Home / Environments / Home Office

The home office quietly became a real workplace. It’s where the focused work, the early calls, and the heads-down hours actually happen for a lot of hybrid workers — and it’s typically furnished with whatever was on hand: a kitchen chair, a laptop propped on books, a dining table at the wrong height. That gap costs comfort, focus, and over time, health. The fix isn’t consumer gear that looks the part; it’s the same tested, warrantied chairs, sit-stand desks, and accessories we spec for the office — sized for a home, shipped to the door, and backed after the sale. Here’s how we set one up right, and the pieces we’d start from.

How to spec it

What this space needs.

Real ergonomics, not lookalikes.

A home desk deserves the same chair and desk you’d spec for the office. Consumer gear mimics the look and gives out — we bring the tested, warrantied lines home, so the support is real and lasts.

The whole setup, not just a chair.

The ergonomics live in how it all works together — chair, sit-stand desk, monitor at eye level, light, and the small stuff — not in one hero product. We set up the whole workstation, not a single purchase.

Made to live in a home.

Smaller footprints, quiet operation, and finishes that suit a room instead of a floor plate — a workspace you don’t mind seeing in your house, not a slice of the office dropped in the spare room.

Backed after it ships.

A home worker has no facilities team. So we ship to the door, make setup simple, stand behind the warranty, and help read or reset a desk base if it acts up — support that doesn’t end at checkout.

Setting up a home office — or a hundred?

Tell us whether it’s your own space or a distributed team’s — we’ll spec the setup, size it to the room, and, for teams, standardize and drop-ship it to every door.

Spec note · outfitting a team

Equipping a hundred home offices, not one.

The hard version of this isn’t setting up one home office — it’s setting up a distributed team’s. When a company decides to support home setups there are three ways to do it, and they’re not equal.

Cash stipend

Easiest to administer, weakest outcomes. People buy the wrong things or pocket it — no consistency, no ergonomic guarantee, no support, and the company owns nothing.

Curated catalog

Employees choose from a vetted, ergonomically sound set within a budget — better fit, real consistency, and you can track and support what went out.

Full program

Standard kits sized to roles, drop-shipped to homes, with setup help and warranty handled centrally — the most consistent, and the least burden on the employee.

We build the vetted set or the standard kits, drop-ship to homes, and handle setup and support — so a distributed team ends up as well-equipped at home as at the office, without your facilities team fielding a hundred one-off requests. And it’s built into how you’d actually run it: our storefront supports company-specific catalogs and pricing, so your people sign into your program — approved kits, your negotiated pricing, your budget rules — not the public store. Curated stops being a policy you have to police and becomes simply what they see. A stipend feels generous and cheap; a curated program costs a little more upfront and pays it back in fewer comfort complaints, real ergonomic outcomes, and assets you can actually account for.

About Home Office Environments

Isn’t home-office furniture just consumer stuff?
No — and that’s the point. We bring the same contract-grade, tested, warrantied lines home that we’d spec for a corporate floor. Consumer gear copies the look but not the engineering or the lifespan; a real task chair and a real sit-stand base feel and hold up differently, for years.
Can you ship directly to employees’ homes?
Yes. For distributed teams we build standard kits, drop-ship them to each employee’s door, and handle setup guidance and warranty centrally — so your people are equipped at home without your facilities team managing a hundred individual orders.
Should we give a stipend or set up a program?
A stipend is the easiest to run and the least effective — inconsistent, no ergonomic guarantee, and nothing the company can track. A curated program or standard kit costs a little more upfront and returns real ergonomic outcomes, consistency, central support, and assets you can account for. We help you build whichever fits, and lean you toward the one that actually works.
What happens if a desk stops working at someone’s home?
They’re not on their own. We stand behind the warranty and can walk a home user through reading or resetting a height-adjustable base — the kind of support a home worker usually can’t get, and one of the real advantages of buying a contract-grade desk from us rather than a box off a shelf.

Working with Applied Ergonomics

What types of projects does Applied Ergonomics work on?
We work on projects of all sizes, from single-office setups to multi-floor corporate buildouts. Our services span workspace strategy, interior design, furniture specification, procurement, project management, and installation across healthcare, education, corporate, industrial, and hospitality environments.
How does the consultation process work?
We start with a conversation to understand your goals, challenges, and timeline. From there we develop a tailored approach that may include space planning, product recommendations, and a detailed proposal. There’s no obligation, and we’re happy to answer questions at any stage.
Do you work with architects and interior designers?
Absolutely. We regularly partner with architects and interior designers as a technical and execution resource, translating design intent into specific, high-performing solutions.
What geographic areas do you serve?
We serve clients nationally. While we’re headquartered in the Chicago area, our project management and installation capabilities extend across the United States.
Do you support ongoing facility needs after a project is complete?
Yes. We remain a consistent point of contact beyond project closeout—handling warranty coordination, reconfigurations, internal moves, modular system relocation and reuse, redesigns, and more. Our goal is continuity, not re-procurement.
