Axel
One of the newest and best systems on the market — and still one of the least well-known.
Overview
It’s our job as the furniture experts to advise you — whether you’re an end user or an interior designer — on which of our systems will best suit your needs. Axel is increasingly what we turn to. Why?
Every system has inherent capabilities and limitations, set when it’s engineered — a balance of design flexibility, strength, durability, reconfigurability, and refresh-ability. And price. The real question is always which capabilities a given design actually needs, weighed against the constant pressure to stay price-competitive.
Axel is one of the latest-generation panel systems, bringing nearly all of our favorite capabilities together in a single finish-matched line — frame-and-tile construction for maximum function and reconfigurability, stacking from 30" tall up to the ceiling with doors, freestanding pavilions, even a standalone or integrated agile beam — so a floor can move from focus to collaboration, from one layout to another and back, without switching systems. And it’s beautiful — the day it goes in, and years down the road. Here’s how it works, and why it’s one we increasingly count on.
Axel is one of our two flagship Panel Systems — the paradigm that still fits the large majority of workstation floors. On a rigid steel frame, it places privacy, acoustics, power and data exactly where each person needs them. Worksurfaces connect off-module, and frames stack and reconfigure over time, so the floor you build today keeps adapting for years. Power can be placed at whatever height each person needs — raised off the floor (our preferred spot, clear of feet and vacuums), at floor level, or above the worksurface. It runs in a raceway cover or a full-height power/data tile (laminate, felt or fabric), so the feed can sit well below — or above — the raised range of a 3-stage sit-stand base.

Axel is becoming a favorite for one reason: it does the most, beautifully, from a single system. Acoustic frame-and-tile panels keep a floor calm; full-height glass opens sightlines; freestanding pavilions with slatted ceilings — tuned for both quiet and light — carve out collaborative rooms; and the integrated beam lets agile and benching zones match the panel floor exactly. One design language, one finish family, across every kind of space. And a detail we especially prize: the fit and finish of the trims is excellent — crisp where pieces meet, and it stays looking good over time.
So here’s when we’d specify Axel — and when we’d point you elsewhere.
Specify it when
- You want one system to cover many scenarios — workstations, panel-built offices with glass fronts & doors, freestanding interior pavilions, even an integrated beam.
- You need tiles you can swap freely — acoustic fabric, laminate, whiteboard, and steel — in one frame.
- You’re solving complex on- and off-module conditions — field constraints or mixed-design workstation clusters.
- You’re specifying for the long term and want a finish program that coordinates across workstations, casegoods, and tables.
- You value working with a second-generation, family-owned company that prizes sustainability, has ranked among Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 18 years running, and keeps improving.
Consider something else when
- You need it fast — a quick-ship panel line lands sooner.
- The floor will reconfigure constantly — an agile beam, with power carried on the spine, reconfigures faster.
- You want maximum open density and daylight — benching opens the plan up.
- You want a warmer, more residential feel — a desking system gets there more easily.
- Budget is the single deciding factor over refinement.

Highlights
- Stacks solid or glazed frames to the ceiling — with sliding and swing doors.
- Pavilions with tuned slatted ceilings shape collaborative rooms for acoustics and light.
- Power sits at whatever height each person needs — and clear of sit-stand desks.
Configurations & construction
- One system, many spaces — frame-and-tile panels, full-height glass, freestanding pavilions and an integrated agile beam, all finish-matched.
- Off-module flexibility — worksurfaces connect where the plan wants them, not only at fixed panel points.
- Stackable & changeable — stack solid or glazed frames with level-change and junction plates for complex, multi-height layouts.
- Full-height glass & doors — stackable glass panels plus sliding and swing doors for clean, glass-fronted rooms.
- Pavilions with tuned slatted ceilings — semi-enclosed collaborative rooms shaped for acoustics and light.
- Integrated agile beam — runs agile and benching zones in the very same finishes as the panel floor.
- Power at multiple heights — raised off the floor (preferred — away from feet and vacuums), at floor level, or above the worksurface; carried in a raceway cover or a full-height power/data tile.
- Gallery panels — thin laminate wing dividers that take glass or felt screen inserts on top, held in a slim aluminum extrusion, for light or a softer, quieter divide.
